The history of Yemen culture goes back to ancient times. The first people to call themselves Yemeni were the Qahtani Yemeni tribe of Jurhum. The Yemen kingdoms took control of the region as early as 800 BCE. After driving of the Romans, and being ruled by the Persians, the land became a part of the Islamic Empire up until the 11th century. By this this time, both Islam and Judaism had come into the land. Later by the 16th century the Ottoman Empire dominated Yemen, however by 1990 it became its own republic. This was short-lived as civil war exploded throughout the country. This war continued for four months until the Northern regime capturing the Southern headquarters of Aden. To this day both sides of the land are at each other’s throats. Only time will tell of the remaining struggle.
